Honda Dealership
The new Honda Dealership—located in Irmo, South Carolina—consists of a 63,600 square foot facility sales and maintenance building, parking and vehicle storage area, and a multi-tiered car tower. A project of this magnitude has many engineering challenges. In addition to the typical project challenges, auto dealerships have a unique requirement for proper site visibility from several vantage points.
For this project, we coordinated with the Federal Department of Transportation to allow for grading modifications in an adjacent interstate right-of-way. The site topography was reasonable for grading design, but we had to make careful design adjustments because of the existence of rock at shallow depths to minimize project costs. We routed sewer design to an offsite location, with the preferred route being disrupted by a future major roadway project. Though this project had many challenges, we overcame these hurdles by the effective coordination and experience of our project managers and design engineers.
